Just got an email from my neighbor that they found La Negra. In Cancun. Lying near a car near Mercado 28 - probably tired. She went a long way, but wow - how lucky! We are so happy. I still cannot believe they found her. That dog is one lucky little girl.

So happy for you and Negra! She IS a lucky girl. :D What a relief!
Sue, I had read your post and just prayed she would be found...What wonderful news that she was found...She is very special!!!
Lucky dog! Some girls just wanna shop! No, truly, this is an act of God. An American Thanksgiving story for a Canadian.
That's great!
I have to say - it must be some kind of miracle. And my neighbors deserve a Pulitzer prize for dog-finding, if there was such a thing.
They took the ferry over to Cancun, in darkness, and walked the streets looking for Negra. Streets they are not familiar with. What led them to Mercado 28 where Negra was? I can't imagine. In this case the human 'sniffer' was stronger than the canine!
Hats off to Donna and David! And since they are American, it is truly their Thanksgiving.
Everyone definitely has something to be grateful for this Thanksgiving! :) And I think it probably classifies as a little miracle.
So much for keeping her quiet! I'm so glad they found her though. The alternatives of what could have been are unthinkable. And I can't believe anybody would purposely walk the streets of Cancun in that area after dark! Sounds like 3 lucky individuals to me.
The full story on how La Negra got away is that she was being bathed out back, and there was a crash in the parking lot, and everyone went to look, including the person giving Negra her bath, and they didn't shut the gate, and Negra took the opportunity and hit the road, with a piece of rope dragging behind.
They gave chase, but Negra, having lived on the streets of Isla, knows how to get away when she doesn't want to be caught. She got in with the crowd, and crossed the streets with the people, keeping just a few steps ahead of those giving chase. She apparently went into the ADO bus station and out the other side. They followed her all the way to Mercado 28, where they finally lost her. So that is how my neighbors knew the direction to search - thank goodness! But how they found her in the dark is a miracle, really - they were just about to give up when they came upon her there in the parking lot.
Negra is now back on Isla, confined into my neighbors yard for a few days while the heart-worm medication does its thing. I should take her mattress and pillows over, I'm sure she is missing her comfy bed.
And Wayne - that was my thought too. That area, at night - not the safest place to be. But my neighbor was so frantic that I'm sure anyone thinking about mugging them would think twice after seeing the determination in her face. Something kept them safe. And so we have a happy ending.
Wow, should have read on before the last post. I'm so glad you found Negra.
